Understanding DAZER & HUSH Ultrasonic Bark Control Devices
Protect Your Family from Stray Dogs with DAZER Australia II Ultrasonic Bark Control Devices
During the beautiful Australian summer months, families and friends spend more time outside walking, jogging, and enjoying the outdoors. Unfortunately, this can also mean encountering aggressive or noisy dogs. We’ve noticed an increase in questions about ultrasonic bark control devices — so here’s a guide to help you find the best option for your needs.
How Do Stop-Barking Devices Work?
DAZER and HUSH devices emit a high-frequency sound that humans cannot hear but dogs can.
Sound Level: 115 dBA (loud and high-pitched)
Activation: Short 1–2 second bursts
Effect: Startles barking dogs and deters aggressive approaches
Design: Directional for targeted use, with a handy metal clip for belts, joggers, or cyclists
What is an Ultrasonic Anti-Bark Device?
Sometimes called a “bark zapper,” these devices emit a high-powered ultrasonic tone to interrupt unwanted barking.
Do They Work?
Yes — provided the dog is within range (up to 15 m, depending on the model) and in line of sight.
They will not work through glass, timber, brick, shrubs, or other solid barriers.
A good rule of thumb: if you could throw a tennis ball directly to the dog, the device will work.
Operating Tips
Aim directly at the dog for best results.
Keep the device steady — avoid using it at an angle.
Use short repeated bursts, not constant activation.
Check your model’s maximum range:
DAZER II: 7 m
HUSH U20: 10 m
HUSH UB122: 15 m

Will They Work on All Dogs?
Not always.
Puppies under 9 months may not hear the tone.
Older dogs with hearing loss may not respond.
However, we’ve had success with many breeds — including American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Beagle, Border Collie, Boxer, Bulldog, Chihuahua, French Bulldog, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Husky, Labrador, Maltese Shih Tzu, Poodle, Rottweiler, Schnauzer, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier — and even cats.
What is a Dog DAZER?
A DAZER is designed to daze or disrupt a dog’s behaviour — for example, stopping barking or preventing an approach.
Emits a high-frequency tone that captures the dog’s attention.
A steady red light shows activation when you press the button.
When to Use DAZER
Approaching dogs: Most will stop or turn away.
Unfamiliar/aggressive dogs: Adds a layer of personal safety.
Barking control: Works best alongside verbal commands for training.
Note: Effectiveness may vary depending on the dog’s age, hearing, temperament, and distance.

JK, April 2020 (verified purchase) “Great product, received promptly after ordered. Stopped barking problem with neighbours dogs within days. 10 out of 10.”
BW, May 2020 (verified purchase) “Does what it says it would do. (As stated also, is not effective on very aggressive dogs) It must always be used with a voice command. It soon only requires the command and not the device to deactivate the dog.”
JK, May 2020 (verified purchase) “Best investment for anyone who has a nearby neighbour with barking dogs.”

”It was extremely effective. I only had to use it a few times before my dog Chloe got the message. Now I only have to say “Chloe no” and she stops barking...”
KM, March 2020 (verified purchase) “It actually helped with my Cat. He was constantly focusing on a new cat next door and becoming really anxious. Just a couple of quick clicks of the Dog Dazer II and it interrupted his focusing and allowed him to be more calm and not so focused on the new cat next door.”
