Meet the Person Behind DAZER Australia
Over 60 years of life around animals—from street cats and budgies to Boxers and Frenchies—has taught me one thing: patience and consistency can train almost anything.
Stephen's interest in dog training began the way it does for many parents — he simply wanted his kids to feel safe and confident around their own dogs. Training the family's Boxer dogs from puppies meant putting in the work early, so that as they grew, they were well-behaved and manageable for the boys and their friends.
But barking was one challenge that never fully went away. Possums, wildlife, anything moving after dark — the dogs would react on instinct, the way dogs do. At the same time, a neighbour's Fox Terrier was barking for hours every day the moment its owners left. If you've lived next door to that kind of relentless noise, you know how quickly it wears you down.
That combination — managing his own dogs while dealing with a neighbour's — is what led Stephen to start seriously researching solutions. After testing a wide range of products, he settled on the US-designed DAZER II in 2009. It stood out for its consistency and real-world effectiveness, and Dazer Australia was born from there.
More Than Just Stopping Barking
Over the years, Stephen has taken phone calls and answered emails from all kinds of people — dog owners wanting to train their pets, frustrated neighbours, and professionals working in situations where dogs pose a genuine safety risk.
Two stories really stand out. (read in our reviews)
The water meter reader. Solomon Water supplied DAZER units to their field team after recognising the safety risk of entering unfenced properties. One meter reader found himself being chased by an aggressive dog that was gaining fast. Knowing he couldn't outrun it, he stopped, turned, aimed the device, and pressed the button. The dog stopped immediately. He pressed it again — and the dog turned and walked away. A potentially serious incident, avoided.
The horse rider. Angel was out riding when a German Shepherd charged towards her and her horse. She raised the DAZER over her horse's head and directed it at the dog. The dog stopped in its tracks. What could have become a dangerous situation for both rider and animal was over in seconds.
These are the kinds of outcomes that keep Stephen doing what he does. It's never just been about selling a product — it's about helping people solve a real problem that affects their daily lives.
